Moonlight Proposal

Walking the silent streets at night,
A velvet veil obscures my sight.
The silence soon dispels my thought
Into the frost that darkness wrought,
And while the whipping winter winds
Descend on me and chill my skin
My arms cling tightly 'cross my chest
You by my side, close to my breast.

Shall we take a winter stroll?
Beside the fields that softly roll
In waves that pair in courtly dance --
A supple sight, seen but per chance --
Down through the trees that sway and shake
A darkened pathway we must take.
Though hand in hand and steady still
Will lead us to our distant dell.

Where thicket's grip is long since past
A level path we've reached at last.
Here past the clutch of winter's chill
The moonlight air is soft and still
And once our respite has been reached
A quiet moment I beseech
On yonder moonlight river side
Together shall we rest a while?
